In the introduction, the authority of Europe is being debated. The man who wrote the introduction tries to convince the audience that European settlement is better than anything that Africa can provide. Africa is being transformed into a “Europe” by decolonization. The authors of this presented their sides and the people who are actually affected by it would be the ones who it would affect the most. The reading was actually very confusing to me but what was clear is the strong stated opinions about colonization. One of the authors stressed that he believed in the ways of the European society; and the other author believed that Europe is full of racism and trying to transform Africa is wrong. It seemed to me that both authors were so focused on their side of the argument, that they payed little attention to the opposing side. I think they both approached their argument too strong, making it not as effective as it could have been. It seems as if they were both stuck in their arguments, causing them to seem bias. This turns the reader off, making the reader feel that they (the authors) won’t even give thought to any other ideas.
